Mark and Matt’s Rain-Kissed Backyard Wedding at Their Historic Home in Newton, NH

Big Thanks to my friend and super talented photojournalist and wedding photographer Chris of Silk City Photo, who frolicked in the rain with me all Saturday- many of these photos are his

It’s not often that I get the pleasure of photographing two celebrations for the same couple, when I do, I get to capture two different flavors of weddings, which was the case for two of my favorite people, Mark and Matt. Their June celebration planned for last year at their historic home (at one time owned by Captain Josiah Bartlett, second signer of the Declaration of Independence) was bumped to this year due to a surprisingly early deployment for Matt, who is in the Army Reserves. Not wanting to miss out on tying the knot in 2022, Mark and Matt had the loveliest winter intimate wedding last February.

This year’s celebration had three layers to it- Mark and Matt finally celebrating their marriage with all their favorite people, a recognition of reunification after Matt’s nine months away in Africa, and a final party at the house they fell in love at before they move to be closer to family (at an equally cool house in Newton, Ma!). I loved exploring the inside and out of their home and reuniting with family members I met last year.

The rain, which affected all weddings this past Saturday around New England, created a cozy, painterly quality throughout the day, and the most unflappable planner I’ve met, Jen of Memorable Events, seamlessly pivoted into an outdoor umbrella-decked ceremony that was a joy to photograph. I jokingly told Mark and Matt I want them to throw another wedding next year at their new home, a Victorian with a giant porch, because these two know how to make beautiful things shine.
