Katie and Ben’s Solstice Wedding at their home and farm, Wild Earth Farm, in Randolph, Vermont

I met Katie at my best friend, Taylor’s poetry reading at Silloway Sugarhouse in early April this year. After we met, Katie told me about her Solstice wedding and how she was in search of a photographer to capture the ceremony and party in the field by their herd of beef cattle. I was immediately in!

Katie and Ben moved to Vermont last year and purchased their farm on what their neighborhood calls “Love Hill,” with stunning views of the mountains, rolling green pastures, and a whole lot of wonderful neighbors. As they established themselves on their farm, they quickly became friends with many people in the surrounding homes (which I attribute to both their sweet natures and how exquisitely they run their property) and have told me they feel such a feeling of belonging after just one year on the farm.

Like all weddings, Katie and Ben’s was a celebration of past connections, the present moment, and the future possibilities. Unlike many weddings, Katie and Ben’s wedding was a moment to honor the land they’ve put down deep roots upon, and the community that has welcomed them with open arms. As someone who lives less than 30 minutes from their farm, it was also a wonderful opportunity for me to make new friends and connect with some old ones as well.
